About

Psychotherapy practice exlusively focused exclusively on...

Stage of Life Transitions/Existential Crises

Life transitions may involve trauma, grief and loss. They too, may be unexpected, but they may also be planned and can have positive effects on our life. At the same time, life transitions generally involve the closing of one door and the opening of another, which can bring up a variety of conflicting and potentially confusing thoughts and emotions, and a multitude of options that can be addressed in therapy.

Compassion Fatigue & Professional Burnout

You've been giving and giving, and though it's a part of who you are, you're finding that your cup is empty and you're running out of steam, not feeling like yourself anymore. You've lost your "zest" for life and are looking for a way to get back to your sense of self...or discover a new one. There's light ahead, and we can work together to help you find it.

Chronic Stress

In our fast-paced world, it can be difficult to find space from the multitude of things generating stress in our lives -- whether that's work, school, raising a family, starting a business, caring for aging parents, or all of the above and more. Identifying your values, your short and long-term goals while developing tools and a solid plan to get you there as a whole, balanced human being can create the relief you've been looking for.

Anxiety

Sometimes anxiety can propel us toward being our best self, while other times (and perhaps more frequently) it gets in the way. Developing a compassionate yet clear plan to conquer your fears can open up an entirely new world of joys and opportunities you may never have thought possible. Your life and freedom await you!

Trauma/PTSD

When we experience an unexpected event or series of events, it can shake us to our very core, changing the way we view ourselves and the world around us. Receiving support, guidance and direction through the healing process can result in a renewed and regenerated understanding of yourself, your world, and your place in it.

Grief and Loss

Grief and loss is a type of trauma, and can either be expected or unexpected. Similar to trauma, the experience of grief and loss can cause us to question many aspects of our lives and how to proceed in the absence of an important part of who we've known ourselves to be. Therapy for grief and loss can be considered a kind of "patchwork quilt" in which we weave together memories, values, identity, and your eventual vision for the future.

About Me

I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Arizona (LMFT-16150) California (97263), Connecticut (3361), Nevada (01450), and Texas (205464), and I've been in practice for 14 years. I am also a member of the American Psychological Association (APA), Division 32, Society for Humanistic Psychology as well as an International Member of the Society for Existential Analysis (SEA). In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my dogs, hiking, yoga, reading, writing, cooking/baking, and restoring a former organic farm that was devastated by wildfire.

I became a therapist because I noticed a pattern in my life: people felt comfortable sharing their life stories with me, and felt better as a result of having done so. To this day, I find it an honor and incredibly inspiring to witness humans in their own individual growth process, and am so grateful to have found this career path and be working with clients like you.

I work from an integrative therapeutic orientation that is primarily from a humanistic/psychodynamic/existential/narrative perspective that is informed by and utilizes a client-specific mix of the following approaches:

  • Family Systems

  • Cognitive-Behavioral (CBT)

  • Mindfulness-Based

  • Solution-Focused

  • Structural

  • Strength-Based

  • Gestalt

  • Attachment-Based

When working together, you will find that I am deeply present, engaged and empathetic in a safe, non-judgmental space. Our work together will be dialogue-based, relying on deep, reflective dialogue with profound, open-ended questions that encourage self-exploration rather than formulaic interventions or skills development. Within that framework, my approach will be tailored to your individual needs and existential concerns, drawing from mindfulness approaches, narrative therapy and cognitive-behavioral techniques.

Additionally, I often utilize imagery, metaphor, art, music, drama, literature, videos, documentaries and movies to supplement/augment what we discuss in session, along with an appropriate dose of reality and humor when necessary to solidify your understanding and internalization of new and/or complex topics.

If you're interested in homework assignments, I develop creative and unique homework assignments to help solidify what we've discussed in session (and if you're not into homework, that's perfectly fine, too).

Licensed in
AZ, CA, CT, NV and TX?!?

Why so many different state licenses?

Over the years, I've had a number of different long-term clients who have moved to different states and  would benefit from working with the same therapist on sensitive issues that are important to them, especially when it's often hard to find a therapist due to professional shortages. Where possible, I've tried to accommodate those needs and became licensed in those states.

Additional Information...

Self-pay clients are also welcome; I utilize Stripe to process credit/debit/HSA payments via the Secure Client Portal on the HIPAA-compliant "SimplePractice" electronic health record and telehealth platform.

Superbills can also be provided for clients wishing to utilize Out-of-Network (OON) benefits or to independently seek reimbursement from their insurance company.

Graduate/Post-Graduate students in psychology, counseling or social work who can provide proof of enrollment are eligible for a reduced self-pay fee (limited availability); call, email or use the "Contact" form to learn more!

Please note that I do not provide evaluations or letters for or in regard to Service Animals, Emotional Support Animals, employers, schools, or court-ordered/court-related treatment of any kind for any reason. If this is something you're in need of, please see the "Resources" page for additional information about obtaining an Emotional Support Animal letter from a qualified ESA Assessment Specialist.

**Unfortunately, Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Texas has a requirement that therapists reside in the same state as the client, regardless of the state the therapist is licensed in. Since I do not reside in California, this results in not being able to utilize Anthem BCBS of Texas with clients residing in California.
